Pollution Is At War With Our Skin

Is pollution making us old?

We can see it but probably don’t feel it, but there’s so much junk floating in the air we breathe, and is also hitting our skin pretty hard. For a long time, scientists have been studying the effects of pollution on the skin and today it is a total fact that pollutants are playing a huge role in premature aging and inflammation.

The answer to this question is; YES! pollutants are aging us and faster.

THE STRATEGY (Pollution uses to attack the skin)

The results show that particulate matter (PM) causes oxidative stress in the skin resulting in molecule damage, these damaging free radicals overwhelm our skin’s defense mechanism which in turn induces DNA destruction. In other words, pollution is killing our skin’s underlying structure, which leads to premature signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, loss of elasticity, collagen, and dull skin.

PM is just one of the five air pollutants that trigger oxidative stress and age us, NITROGEN OXIDE, VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS, SMOG, and the worst of all ULTRAVIOLET RAYS.

The assault is imminent, the total damage to our skin surface, it attacks lipids and proteins that keeps our complexion hydrated and our skin barrier function strong is chemical warfare against our skin. Unfortunately, our body has other and more important fights to fight and aging is not a priority.

Luckily, we don’t have to give up urban life to prevent pollution’s aging effects. We got to fight back. New products targeting pollution and oxidative damage also provide novel ways to protect your skin and block out the bad stuff from getting in.

• FIRST WHACK BACK, our strategy begins with a good face wash such as Alastin or ZO Gentle Cleansers, these 2 are my personal favorites. AM and PM, is imperative to wash your face at night, remember pollutants accumulate on the skin over the course of the day and the longer it sits and the more it builds up, the worse it will be.

•ANTIOXIDANTS will bolster your internal army of pollution fighters, look for those that contain vitamin C and ferulic acids, such as Skinceuticals C E Ferulic or Phloretin CF, Alastin Restorative Skin Complex is an amazing choice to protect your skin against new damage also ZO Daily Power Defense is a powerful antioxidant that supports skin’s natural DNA repair process.

• NEXT, hydration. Keep the skin hydrated, Skinceuticals B5 Gel, Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer, Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream are amazing choices, I personally love my Medical Barrier from Epionce is a gentle but rich moisturizer that provides a surge of hydration for sensitive skin this cream is perfect for all skin types and is optimal for compromised skin it gives such a skin barrier protection against pollution and the best of all, is botanical.

• AT NIGHT, use products with resveratrol or a whisper of Retinol such as Skinceuticals Resveratrol BE or ZO Radical Night Repair will be a huge help and don’t forget to hydrate at night. A night skincare regimen will activate your body’s own antioxidant system and will build up your arsenal of anti-aging defense.

• UV PROTECTION. Switch to a mineral-based sunscreen with zinc. The more natural the better.

There are two types of UV rays that can damage DNA in your skin cells and lead to wrinkles, sunspots, and even cancer. Nkdskin Aesthetics proudly brings you the most trusted medical graded SPF brands such as Elta MD, Alastin, Epionce, ZO Skin Health, and Skinceuticals to make sure you are all covered against UV damage. EltaMD sun care is one of the most trusted UV protection by all cancer associations. I love them all and YES! I have a favorite, my personal favorite is the Alastin Hydratint Pro Mineral Sunscreen SPF 36 is Luxury on the skin. You got to try it.

In conclusion. Medical grade skincare is imperative, stick to a streamlined routine and you’ll see there is nothing more gorgeous than skin that’s got its guard up.
